My name is Kristin Karls and I am the trainer at Sunset Ridge Performance horses! Like many of you, I remember loving horses since I was a little girl. My journey began when my mom let me take riding lessons when I was six years old. After that I was hooked for life. At the age of 10, I was able to purchase my first horse, a 26 year old palomino Arabian. This is what started my show experience in 4-H. As I grew older I started getting younger horses to learn from and work with. I became more competitive with my showing career when I started to show my Morab mare. I trained and showed her in Dressage, Western, Hunter/Jumper, and Hunter Under Saddle . We competed very successfully at the local and state 4-H levels but I felt like I still wanted to challenge myself in higher levels of competition. When I got to college I was able to purchase a well bred yearling, Quarter Horse gelding. My goal with him was to bring him up and train him to be a successful Hunter Under Saddle and Over Fences horse. After starting him as a two year old, I was able to compete at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress when he was a three and four year old. Both years we were finalists in the Open and Amateur divisions in Hunter Hack. Now I am onto my next project, a two year old reining bred filly. My goals with her are to train her into a successful reining horse. My dream ever since I was a little girl was to become a horse trainer and now my dream is finally coming true! As of May 2014, I am a collage graduate in Equestrian Science with a Business minor from William Woods University in Missouri. With my knowledge from my degree, I look forward to finally being a professional in the industry!
